accent Aerospace Engineering
Bachelor of Science
What You'll Learn

Integrated engineering systems: Learn to design and analyze aerospace systems by combining mechanical, electrical and computational engineering principles, including circuits, controls and signal analysis.
Advanced mathematical modeling: Apply calculus (through Calculus III), differential equations and engineering analysis to model aerodynamics, orbital mechanics and dynamic systems.
Physical systems analysis: Develop a deep understanding of statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and materials to evaluate how aerospace systems perform in real-world conditions.

Why Study Aerospace Engineering at UAF?
- Hands-on engineering from day one:
You'll begin with classes like Engineering ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ and Makerspace ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ to gain early, practical experience in design, prototyping and problem-solving.
- Specialized aerospace pathways:
Focus your degree through concentrations in aeronautical engineering, space systems (astronautics) or unmanned aircraft systems.
- Capstone design experience:
Complete a senior design sequence, working in teams to solve real engineering challenges, often in collaboration with industry or research partners.
Your Career Pathways
As a graduate of UAF's aerospace engineering program, you'll be prepared for careers in aerospace, defense and emerging autonomous systems industries, including roles in flight systems, satellite technology and control systems engineering. The program’s strong foundation in electrical, mechanical and systems engineering also supports careers in robotics, communications and advanced engineering fields. You'll be well-positioned for graduate study or licensure through the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) pathway.

“Aerospace engineering prepared me for my career.
— Alex Armstrong
Aerospace Engineering B.S. 2026 Graduate
“My time at CEM helped shape the foundation of my career. Through hands-on experiences like Aeronautics Club and my senior capstone project, I gained the practical skills, confidence, and problem-solving experience that prepared me to launch an exciting career in aerospace at Boeing.

Design-Build-Fly Competition
You'll have the opportunity to participate in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Design-Build-Fly competition, where you'll design, fabricate and test an unmanned, electric-powered aircraft from the ground up. Through this experience, you can apply concepts from aerodynamics, structures and controls while working as a team to meet real competition constraints. This project offers you a hands-on opportunity to turn classroom theory into a fully functional aircraft.
