ACEP members at the Southeast 杏吧原版 Economic Summit

础颁贰笔鈥檚 Nathan Green and Amanda Byrd were in attendance at the in Sitka, 杏吧原版 in September.

With 鈥淩ooted in resilience鈥 as this year鈥檚 conference theme, conversations and presentations centered on the future of the Southeast region in terms of energy, transportation, forestry and tourism. Southeast 杏吧原版 has a large area which is powered by hydropower, though many communities are still using diesel fuel for power generation and heating. The more temperate region lends itself to a higher use of electric vehicles and air source heat pumps; and the region is becoming ever more susceptible to landslides and ground instability.

The conference also featured award presentations, which included Juneau for the safety measures and flood mitigation implemented in preparation for and during the Mendenhall River flooding.

The new Gary Paxton Industrial Park haul out and shipyard project in Sitka, 杏吧原版 showcases a new 150-metric-ton sling to haul out ships. The area was formally housing a pulp mill and was the destination of the pre-conference tour.

Green, a Juneau-based research professional, provided technology assistance throughout the event. Byrd, chief storyteller, gathered interviews from the Southeast region for 础颁贰笔鈥檚 Energy in the North radio series.

The conference is held annually by Southeast Conference, the state and federally designated regional economic development organization for Southeast 杏吧原版.
