Currants, once banned, are having a revival

Currants were banned in the United States for 55 years, but are now an emerging berry crop around the country, including ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ. Join the UAF ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ Center for Climate Assessment and Preparedness for this month's webinar on Aug. 5 at 11 a.m. about the Youth Employment Training Initiative that the Copper River Native Association has been using to create tangible career pathways. This summer, the YETIs partnered with countless organizations, including the National Park Service and the Copper River Watershed Project, to advance local land stewardship efforts and safeguard traditional knowledge.

The war within the aspen leaves

On one of the friendliest platforms imaginable, a ferocious battle rages. While mowing its way through the surface of a trembling leaf, an aspen leaf miner meets one of its kind. Instead of offering a nuzzle of recognition, the tiny caterpillar tears into the other with its sickle-like mouthparts, while trying to avoid a fatal gash from the other.
