Dear UAF faculty and staff,
I was saddened to learn this week of the passing of Mary Ehrlander, UAF alumna and
professor emeritus of history and Arctic and Northern studies.
Mary’s dedication to education and research in ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ spanned decades, first as a
teacher at Lathrop High School and then as a professor at UAF. During her tenure at
UAF, she mentored dozens of graduate students, authored five books and served as a
leader for UAF’s Arctic and Northern studies program. Following her retirement in
2020, Mary continued to serve as a mentor and teacher in her emeritus role.
