This summer, the real enemy in many Fairbanks gardens wasn't drought or moose — it
was slugs. "I get more calls about slugs every year," said Gooseberry Peter, agriculture
and integrated pest management program assistant with the University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Fairbanks
Cooperative Extension Service. Most people calling have never had slugs before, making
these slimy critters a major topic of conversation for Fairbanks gardeners this season.

A team of scientists working with local residents has detailed the rapidly accelerating
"catastrophic" permafrost thawing and infrastructure damage at the northern ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ

Jahna Lindemuth, ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æâ€™s former attorney general, will share reflections on justice
and leadership in ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ in a session Sept. 25 from 5:30-7 p.m. She led major statewide
legal and public safety initiatives and helped secure the exoneration of the Fairbanks
Four. A seasoned trial and appellate attorney, she continues to advise ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Native
corporations on governance and policy. In her talk, Lindemuth will discuss rural justice
and the importance of collaboration between the state and ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Native tribes in
building stronger, more resilient communities.Ìý.
