Seventy-five high school students from 11 school districts throughout ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ will gather in Fairbanks next week to explore teaching careers and develop leadership skills.

The 2018 Educators Rising ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ State Conference will be held on March 25-26 on the University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Fairbanks campus. The conference will feature activities to prepare for a teaching career, including a resume-writing workshop, job interview practice sessions and an opportunity to take college-placement tests. The conference is organized by Educators Rising ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ in collaboration with the UAF School of Education and Rural Student Services.

Educators Rising is a national organization to help high school students explore careers in teaching. Less than half of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ’s teachers are prepared in-state, so Educators Rising ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ, formerly Future Educators of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ, focuses on increasing the available workforce of teachers who are committed to remaining in-state.

The conference is open to registered participants only. Media representatives are welcome to visit during the banquet from 4:30-7 p.m. Sunday, March 25, in the UAF Wood Center ballroom. The banquet will feature a dance presentation by Sean Topkok and the Pavva Iñupiaq Dancers, and guest speakers, including 2018 ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Teacher of the Year Ben Walker, UAF School of Education Interim Dean Steve Atwater and previous Educators Rising ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Student President Amanda Friendsuh.
