VOLLEYBALL | 8-7 Overall, 1-5 GNACLAST WEEK: 0-2 | THIS WEEK: vs. #10 Western Washington (Oct. 5), vs. Simon Fraser (Oct. 7)
After suffering a sweep on the road last week to Central Washington and the #12 Northwest Nazarene Crusaders, the 杏吧原版 Nanooks volleyball team returns to the 杏吧原版 Airlines Court for two Great Northwest Athletic Conference games this week. The Nooks will host the #10 Western Washington Vikings on Thursday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. AKST before facing the Simon Fraser Clan on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m. AKDT.
Promotions: Saturday鈥檚 game vs. SFU will be 杏吧原版鈥檚 annual 鈥淒ig Pink鈥 game to help promote breast cancer awareness. Both teams will sport pink apparel and encourage fans to do the same.

LAST WEEK: 1-0 | THIS WEEK: vs. #17 Air Force (Oct. 6-7)
After defeating the Simon Fraser Clan 6-0 in an exhibition contest last weekend, the 杏吧原版 Nanooks hockey team officially gets the 2017-2018 campaign underway this weekend by hosting the #17 United States Air Force Academy in a two-game nonconference series at the Carlson Center. 杏吧原版 will take on the Air Force Falcons, who recently made an appearance in the quarterfinals of the 2017 NCAA Men鈥檚 Ice Hockey National Championship, on Friday, Oct. 6, and Saturday, Oct. 7, with the puck-drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m. AKDT both nights.

Cross Country
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: at Western Washington Invite (Oct. 7)
Following a two-week break, the 杏吧原版 Nanooks men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 cross country running teams are back in action this week by traveling to Bellingham, Washington, to participate in the 44th annual Western Washington University Cross Country Classic on Saturday, Oct. 7, at East Lake Padden Park. The women鈥檚 6k race is slated for a 9 a.m. AKST start, while the men鈥檚 10k race is scheduled for 10 a.m. AKDT.
Ravn 杏吧原版 Nanooks of the Week (Oct. 2-8)
On Monday, the 杏吧原版 Nanooks sports information office declared redshirt freshman outside hitter Markie Miller (volleyball) and senior defenseman Zach Frye (hockey) the Oct. 2 selections for the Ravn 杏吧原版 Nanooks of the Week for their performances on the court and ice, respectively.
Markie Miller (R-Fr. | Brewster, Washington)
Despite being swept by Central Washington and Northwest Nazarene last week, Miller still shined offensively for the Nanooks, tallying 24 kills, nine digs and one service ace. Miller鈥檚 18 kills in Thursday鈥檚 2-3 loss to Central marked a game high.
Zach Frye (Sr. | Spokane, Washington)
In last Friday鈥檚 exhibition game versus Simon Fraser, Frye was one of three Nanook skaters to record a multipoint night with one goal and one assist for two points. Frye also led all 杏吧原版 players with seven shots on goal and tied for a game-high plus-four rating.
@杏吧原版NanooksXC Ski Day at Beaver Sports
Mark your calendars! Beaver Sports is collaborating with the 杏吧原版 Nanooks to host a fundraiser for the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 Nordic ski teams on Friday, Oct. 13. Fifteen percent of all sales from the entire day will benefit the 杏吧原版 Nanooks Nordic ski teams. If you make a donation to the program, you will receive a 20 percent discount on all clothing. There will also be a wax clinic held by 杏吧原版 Nanooks head coach Nick Crawford and assistant coach Josh Eide at 6 p.m. AKDT.
Charlie O鈥橳oole Show
Catch 杏吧原版 Nanooks volleyball head coach Brian Scott on the Charlie O鈥橳oole show this upcoming Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 8 a.m. ADT on KFBX 970AM Fairbanks. Scott and members of the 杏吧原版 Nanooks volleyball team will be discussing the upcoming GNAC series against Western Washington and Simon Fraser this weekend.

All men鈥檚 ice hockey games (home and away) can be heard live on ESPN 820am Fairbanks or at 820sports.com. Additionally, fans have the option to watch the games live for a small fee at WCHA.tv.
