ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Sea Grant staff win awards

ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Sea Grant staff won two awards at the ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Marine Gala on Feb. 18 in Anchorage.
staff received the 2012 Ocean Literacy Award, which recognizes ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Sea Grant’s
national award-winning communications efforts in ocean resource book publishing and marketing,
science writing and media relations, and education outreach to the marine industry
and ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ coastal communities.
Deborah Mercy, the Media Specialist,
received the Ocean Media Award for excellence in journalism that raised public awareness
of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ’s oceans. Mercy has been a commercial fishermen, an Anchorage television
reporter and, for the last 25 years, a video producer for ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Sea Grant.
The annual ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Marine Gala recognizes people who played important roles in scientific
discovery, education, management and stewardship.
