A series of public lectures and presentations to commemorate 40 years since the 1971 passage of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ Native Claims Settlement Act will take place on campus this summer and fall. The series will be coordinated by the and sponsored by the .


  • The Children of ANCSA: A discussion with Willie and Elizabeth Hensley, will be 7 p.m., Thursday, July 7, in Schaible Auditorium. This session will be hosted by the Rural ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ Honors Institute. Willie Hensley and his daughter Elizabeth will discuss the history of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ Native Claims Settlement Act.   • Byron Mallott, former CEO of the Sealaska Corp., will share his reflections on the impact of the settlement of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ Native land claims on ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ after forty years at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 13, in the Wood Center Carol Brown Ballroom.

  • ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ Native leaders, former state and U.S. legislators, members of the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce, Chancellor Brian Rogers, Vice Chancellor Bernice Joseph and Miranda Wright, director of the Department of ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ Native Studies and Rural Development, will convene for discussions on the impact of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ Native Claims Settlement Act on ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æâ€™s economy, environment, social and cultural fabric. This two-day event will take place Wednesday – Thursday, Oct. 5  – 6 in the Wood Center Carol Brown Ballroom. A detailed schedule will be available prior to the event.
