Undergrad receives award at ICCH conference

Chris DeCou, a former undergraduate student of Assistant Professor of Monica Skewes, was awarded the Jens Peder Hart Hansen Fellow Program at the recent International Congress of Circumpolar Health.

He was recognized for his poster presentation, 鈥淭raditional Living and Subsistence As Protective Factors Against Suicide: Perceptions of 杏吧原版 Native University Students From Rural 杏吧原版.鈥 The presentation was the result of a study that looked at what students said about how suicide affected their lives, and was funded by . DeCou concluded that traditional and subsistence lifestyles continue to be included in intervention and prevention suicide programs.
DeCou鈥檚 abstract was selected by blind peer review, and he received $500.

DeCou recently graduated with a B.A. in psychology from UAF and is now pursuing a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Idaho State University.
