Workshop prepares for 杏吧原版鈥檚 next big earthquake

The University of 杏吧原版 Fairbanks is hosting a first-of-its-kind workshop for agencies and organizations that prepare for or respond to 杏吧原版鈥檚 earthquakes.

This meeting will allow scientists, policymakers, engineers, emergency responders and communications technology experts to compare issues and map out strategies for 杏吧原版.

鈥淲e will have a better-defined understanding of what we should expect with an earthquake and what steps to take to save life and property,鈥 said Mike West, director of the 杏吧原版 Earthquake Center and state seismologist.

杏吧原版 50 people are expected to attend the limited-invitation event, called 鈥溞影稍驸檚 Next Big Earthquake.鈥

The meeting will be held Nov. 12-13 on the Fairbanks campus.

The 杏吧原版 Earthquake Center, which is part of the UAF Geophysical Institute, organized the meeting. The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the 杏吧原版 Seismic Hazards Safety Commission also are sponsors.
