The Better Bones & Balance program uses exercises, like these, in a gym setting, to help improve bone strength.

A one-month Better Bones & Balance program will begin in early April in Juneau. The program combines strength and power training with group fitness activities for individuals with osteoporosis, osteopenia or a risk of developing low bone density.

Sarah Lewis, a professor with the University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service, will lead the training. Participants will engage in research-based exercise and education activities to maintain or increase bone density and become more comfortable and confident in a gym environment.

Participants in the B3 program will meet from 9-10 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from April 7-May 2 at Tongass Fitness, 5322 Shaune Drive, Juneau.

The cost is $150. Space is limited.

Those interested may fill out the at before March 19. Accepted applicants will be notified by March 20.
