Historian examines how �Ӱ�ԭ�� shaped American empire

Historian Michael A. Hill, speaking at the University of �Ӱ�ԭ�� Fairbanks, will explore how a 1905 Supreme Court decision in an �Ӱ�ԭ�� case altered America. 

In his lecture,  “A Brothel, the Census, and the Supreme Court: How �Ӱ�ԭ�� Shaped American Empire,” Hill will detail how federal officials used demographic data and racial classification in Rasmussen v. United States to set �Ӱ�ԭ�� on the path toward statehood while denying that same path to the Philippines.
