UAF to host Indigenous Peoples Day events Oct. 13

The University of 杏吧原版 Fairbanks will celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day with several events and activities on Monday, Oct. 13.

Indigenous Peoples Day honors Indigenous people, culture and knowledge nationwide. It affords time to reflect and recognize the Indigenous knowledge that enhances the education provided by the university. 

The following scheduled events are open to the public.

Troth Yeddha鈥 Campus (Fairbanks)

  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 鈥 Fry bread taco fundraiser, Brooks Building Rural Student Services gathering room
  • 1 to 2:30 p.m. 鈥 Elders panel in Wood Center multilevel lounge
  • 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. 鈥 Dance performances in Wood Center multilevel lounge
  • 3:30 to 5 p.m. 鈥 Native games demonstration in Wood Center multilevel lounge
  • 1 to 5 p.m. 鈥 Vendor tables in Wood Center multilevel lounge

Kuskokwim Campus (Bethel)

The Kuskokwim Consortium Library and Kuskokwim Campus will host their fifth annual Indigenous Peoples Day celebration at the Yupiit Piciryarait Cultural Center.

  • 4 p.m. 鈥 Elder wisdom talk
  • 5 p.m. 鈥 Native foods potluck
  • 6 p.m. 鈥 Benediction with Orutsararmiut Native Council Traditional Chief Ignatius 鈥淟ouie鈥 Andrew; performances by the Qasgirmiut and Bethel Regional High School dance groups
