UAF’s new enrollment deposit goes live
Feb. 2, 2027
As of the upcoming fall 2026 semester, the University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Fairbanks will be implementing a $200 enrollment deposit for new baccalaureate and graduate students to confirm their intent to enroll at UAF. The new deposit is live as of Monday, Feb. 2.
Associate, certificate and occupational endorsement students will confirm their intent to enroll without a financial deposit, as will active-duty students receiving tuition assistance and Nanook athletes who have signed a Grant-in-Aid.
The UAF Office of Admissions will provide a student-friendly process for requesting deposit waivers. Any student may request a waiver of the $200 deposit by connecting with an admissions counselor to confirm their intent to enroll.
The non-refundable $200 enrollment deposit will be applied as a prepayment toward a student’s first semester bill and can be applied toward tuition, fees, housing, meal plans, textbooks, parking or any other charge on the student’s account. If their current balance in UAOnline is $0, the student will see a credit on their account until they have charges.
Once the student has made their deposit, no further action is needed on their part — the deposit will be automatically applied to their account, and they will be contacted by an enrollment coach with their personalized next steps.
Why the change?
This change represents a strategic shift designed to better support students as they transition to UAF and to improve UAF’s own enrollment management as an institution. It also aligns UAF with industry best practices.
By securing their seat in the incoming UAF class, students get access to a priority housing assignment, priority advising and registration, and all the other benefits of being a UAF student. The sooner a student confirms, the sooner they can get started on their next steps, like meeting with an enrollment coach in Nanook Advising. Requiring students to confirm their intent to enroll allows UAF departments to plan support and forecast enrollments earlier and more accurately, and communicate more effectively with incoming students.
