What Is the Honors College?

The UAF Honors College is a diverse and welcoming community of high-achieving students who are interested in pursuing a rigorous academic experience in the context of a highly interdisciplinary and supportive learning environment. Our students come from all majors and backgrounds and engage in a wide range of studies.

As an Honors student, you can tailor a course of study that aligns with your unique vision and career goals, pursue a wide range of experiential learning opportunities, and access specialized advising and mentoring support. Most of our students engage in research and field-based learning.

We believe in doing work that helps people and makes our communities stronger. You’ll find a variety of service learning and community engagement initiatives built into the Honors curriculum.

Honors College Staff, Faculty & Researchers

The Honors College staff and its affiliated faculty and researchers are all passionate about the Honors mission to help students fulfil their highest levels of potential. We operate on under the belief that leadership is a collaborative pursuit, that education is a practice one engages in for a lifetime, and that an Honors College is always greater than the sum of its parts.

Our History & Mission

Since the Honors program was first established, we have been dedicated to our mission of providing opportunities for students to pursue excellence in academic and personal development, as well as fostering critical and independent thinking to help students become informed, responsible and active citizens.

Our Honors College Advisory Councils

The Honors College features both faculty and student advising councils. Each provides opportunities to contribute ideas for curricular and extracurricular programming, developing Honors College policies, and more. Our councils are how we demonstrate and exercise the collaborative leadership skills at the heart of the Honors College.
