Fairbanks, ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ (May 23, 2023) - Center ICE at the University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Fairbanks secured a $2.4-million grant from the Office of Naval Research (ONR), in collaboration with the University of Hawai'i and the University of Rhode Island, to strengthen ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ's economy and train the workforce of the future.

IDEAs Awards Deadline is June 2023

The Innovative Disclosures and Entrepreneurial Activities (IDEAs) awards recognize entrepreneurial individuals who have developed innovative approaches to research, teaching, and service. The competition, started in 2015, is hosted by UAF's Center for Innovation, Commercialization, and Entrepreneurship (Center ICE). Any innovation developed by UAF or University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Southeast (UAS) faculty, staff, and students using university resources or as part of a class is eligible for the IDEAs awards.

ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ SBDC Opens Funding Opportunity for ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Inventors

The TREND program will award up to $10,000 to winning innovation proposals. The ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Small Business Development Center’s (ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ SBDC) Technology Research and Development Center of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ (TREND program), in partnership with the University of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Fairbanks Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR), will begin accepting applications for the 2023 Phase 0 grant program on June 1, 2023.

The third cohort of the ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Interior Business Accelerator (AIBA) concluded on Tuesday, May 23, with Lifted Marketing winning the pitch competition hosted by the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce.

“We had a terrific time at the Open House: loads of interest (who can resist tasting three different birch syrups?), great networking opportunities with different West Ridge scientists, and just such a great feeling and event," said Jan Dawe, Director of OneTree ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ (OTA). Eighty-nine booth visitors ranked their preferences amongst the three birch syrups, providing helpful citizen science input for OTA's Innovations in Birch Sap Processing project.

Business Students from UAF Join ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Angel Investor Conference

Over the course of the last 12 weeks ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Center ICE and the UAF College of Business and Security Management (CBSM) Student Investment Fund (SIF) sent three students to the 2023 ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Angel Conference (AAC). The ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Angel Conference is a 12-week process of identifying, filtering, selecting, and managing a group angel investment. An angel investor is a private investor focused on financing small business ventures in exchange for equity. This year’s ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ Angel Conference took 21 of ÐÓ°ÉÔ°æ’s best start-ups and 17 angel investors through the nuanced process of angel investing.
