Learn about and forage for the elusive and delicious spring morel mushrooms with mycologist, Christin Swearingen, co-founder of the Fairbanks Mycology Society and Fairbanks Fungi Festival.

This guided morel hunt will include hands-on identification instruction for the fire morel, plus, tips on safe preparation & preservation, and how to find locations for future morel hunts. Morels are not guaranteed! But we&/ces/districts/tanana/39;ll do the best we can to find a good spring bounty.

Free. Pre-registration required. Space is limited.

NOTE: Please bring your own hydration & lunch. Wear suitable footwear and outerwear for hiking in variable terrains and weather. We will provide transportation from Delta Junction due to limited on-site parking.

Meet at 8:45 a.m. at the Jarvis Building MP1420.5 (same building as the ÐÓ°ÉÔ­°æ State Troopers in Delta Junction). The bus will be leaving at 9 a.m. sharp. You can drive your own vehicle if preferred. We will be on-site in Tok at 11 a.m. The location will be provided at registration. The bus will leave Tok at 2 p.m. to be back in Delta Junction by 4 p.m.

North Pole Ptarmigans meet the fourth Saturday of each month, from 2-5 p.m., at the UAF University Park Building, 1000 University Ave., in Room 150. During the summer, meeting times and locations are more varied to accommodate project tours and special learning opportunities. (Meeting schedule subject to change; please contact a leader to learn more.)

*Typical club projects include: Animals; beef; birds & poultry; dairy cattle; goats (dairy, hair, meat); rabbits/cavies; sheep; swine; community/volunteer service; leadership & personal development; and introductory 4-H projects for Cloverbuds (ages 5-7). *We are open to helping 4-Hers find support in other projects they have interest in.

The Frosty Tails 4-H Club meets weekly on Sundays, 2-4 p.m., alternating between Fairbanks at Timber Creek Senior Center (activity room), 3415 Trothno Lane, and Salcha at Frosty Tails Ranch. Please contact a leader for a full agenda of activities. (Meeting schedule subject to change.)

Typical club projects include: Horse/pony; horseless horse project (no horse required); beef; dairy cattle; sheep; goats; swine; birds & poultry; rabbits/cavies; dogs; veterinary science; arts & crafts; homesteading skills; leadership & personal development; introductory 4-H projects for Cloverbuds (ages 5-7); and community/volunteer service.
